At times it seems to meander - it feels like Carey got caught up in the fun part of writing the Loup and Pilar relationship and adventures without thinking about the plot - although it does more or less all come back together at the end. The only real problem with Saints Astray is that it's a little more loosely edited than Santa Olivia. If you didn't read Santa Olivia, Saints Astray might stand alone, but you'll miss the backstory. If you liked Santa Olivia, you'll probably also like Saints Astray. Again, I don't have a lot to say about it. I loved Santa Olivia so much that I promptly put in an interlibrary loan request for the sequel, Saints Astray.
